Questions about the script tag change
What is changing on March 1, 2027?
Shopify is retiring script tags, an older way apps add features like reviews, pop-ups, chat and tracking to your storefront. Since October 1, 2026, apps can't add new script tags. On March 1, 2027, Shopify stops loading the ones that remain, so any app that still depends on them stops showing on your store.
What happens to my store if I do nothing?
Your store stays online, but features from affected apps quietly disappear: star ratings, email sign-up pop-ups, chat widgets, loyalty launchers, or ad tracking. Shopify won't warn your shoppers, and most merchants only notice when sales or sign-ups drop.
How do I fix an affected app?
Most apps now offer an app embed, the modern replacement for script tags. Turn it on in Online Store, Themes, Customize, App embeds. If the app has no embed, update or reinstall it, ask its developer about the script tag change, or replace it with an app that supports app embeds.
How does this checker work?
It loads your store's public homepage, the same way a shopper's browser does, and looks for the list of apps Shopify loads through script tags. It doesn't need a login and changes nothing on your store. It only checks the homepage; the Readyline app also reads your theme's app embed settings and re-checks your store every week.
Is this an official Shopify tool?
No. Readyline is an independent app made by Readyline Software. The checker is free to use.
